STING DOESN'T WANT TO REUNITE THE POLICE

The organizers had offered Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland a cool $9.2 million per set to play what would be their first shows together in nine years.

Sting says the Police are not getting back together. Fans' hopes were cautiously raised over the past couple of months when word got out that the organizers of California's "Desert Trip" festival were supposedly offering the trio an alleged $18 million to reunite for two shows this year. Last October's inaugural two weekend bash featured such legends as the Rolling Stones, the Who, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, and Neil Young. It's said that the organizers had offered Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland a cool $9.2 million per set to play what would be their first shows together in nine years. We asked Sting point blank if in celebration of the band's 40th anniversary this year, the Police will partake in what is shaping up to be perhaps the ultimate annual rock extravaganza: "I don't think we're old enough yet. . . I'm very proud of the legacy of the Police. Y'know, it still seems to live on in people's memory and fondness. Y'know, I still play a lot of those songs, which I wrote 40 years ago, so I'm very proud of it. I'm not sure that I need to recreate it again. Having done it eight years ago, very successfully, I feel a circle was closed at that time. But we're still, y'know, very much in touch and friends and mutually proud of our achievement." :
