Comments like those almost always lead to conclusions about your personality type and whether you're an introvert or an extrovert.

What are Introverts and Extroverts?

Introvert

An introvert is a person who is typically very reserved and enjoys spending time alone. This person prefers intimate social settings versus being around large crowds. You’re likely to find an introvert in a quiet place and if they're in a social setting, they’re probably mingling with people they already know instead of getting to know new people.

An introvert will normally keep their opinion to themselves. Audrey Hepburn, Barack Obama and Angelina Jolie are just some notable, self-proclaimed introverts.

Extrovert

On the other hand, you can find an extrovert leading the pack, they’re usually the center of attention at any social gathering. An extrovert is not a fan of spending time alone, finding any excuse to leave the house and mingle with new people.

If you need advice, this person will offer you their opinion even if you didn’t ask for it. Some famous extroverts are Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali and Margaret Thatcher.

There are people who fit the introvert mold perfectly and those who fit the extrovert mold perfectly. So, where do we leave those who aren’t quite as timid as an introvert but aren’t as uninhibited as an extrovert?

What if I identify with both?

Ambivert

People who identify with both introversion and extroversion are considered as ambiverts. An article published by The Huffington post, delves a little deeper into what some characteristics of an ambivert are:

“Ambiverts, by definition, are right in between the two when it comes to arousal -- either because they go back and forth between being over and under the optimal level of arousal, or because they're usually in the middle at a comfortable level of arousal -- so they're generally comfortable with a balance of both calmer and more stimulating experiences.” "Ambiverts are in that nice zone, in that sweet spot, where they're able to act out of character as a pseudo-introvert or a pseudo-extrovert, without paying the nervous system costs".

Simply put, an ambivert can posses characteristics from introversion and extroversion alike and the amount of traits a person holds of each can vary from person to person. Here's a video about being an ambivert.

There you have it folks, if you’ve always wondered why you’re the shyest outgoing person or the most talkative quiet person, it’s because you identify with being an ambivert.
