The second wave of coronavirus infections has officially begun in the U.S. while reporting an average of 70,000 cases a day. Local leaders are implementing new shutdowns and restrictions as the Trump administration cites ending the pandemic as one of its accomplishments.

“The importance of having a national testing strategy is to understand where this virus is across the country… what we have now it’s not working… we need to be testing more and we need to be doing it in a systematic way,” says Heather Pierce, with the Association of American Medical Colleges.

“There are so many more states that are in play … I think that really works to the vice president’s advantage… what he's doing is expanding the battlefield to traditionally red places… that puts greater pressure on President Trump, which is why you see him hitting so many places,” says Chris Lu, former senior White House cabinet member under President Obama.
