As the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus continues, millions of New York residents are facing the prospect of not being able to pay their rent. Now the state is stepping in to help.

It's a historic day in the fight against the coronavirus, as Phase 3 clinical trials get underway today in 89 locations across the country, with thousands of volunteers participating. This as deaths continue to rise and the Trump administration warns some states to act now before they become the next hot spot.

“The Latino population seems to have taken a significant increase in the past month in particular. We are seeing more Latinos become sick, and they are younger,” says Dr. Sam Torbati, co-chair and medical director of the emergency department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

A new survey found that nearly half of all black and Latino-owned businesses that are still open are in danger of closing in the next six months. To discuss this we spoke to Rafael Collazo, director of political campaigns at UnidosUS.

From Portland, to Seattle and Austin, racial justice protests erupted this weekend. While many were peaceful, others turned violent with confrontations between demonstrators and police. Dozens of people were arrested, and officers suffered injuries.

Data indicates a correlation between geographical income disparities and the likelihood of spending time in jail. For example, in South Dallas, where the median income is $19,000 per year, the incarceration rate is 9.1%. In contrast, in the north of that same city, where average earnings are $29,000 per year, only 1% are incarcerated, according to local officials.
