Remember those days when many were doing the ‘planking’ and posting photos online. Then there was the ice bucket challenge (this one was for a good cause, though).
The new “trend” is big amongst teenagers and it’s called the Duct Tape Challenge. It is a game in which someone tapes another person with duct tape all around the body. They then see how long it takes for the person to free themselves. As a final step, teenagers then share the video online with the hashtag #ducttapechallenge.
For many young kids this a lot of fun, but surely not for Skylar Fish, 14, who did the challenge with two friends and ended up in a hospital with serious injuries.
The accident occurred while he was trying to get out of the tape. His friends allegedly wrapped his legs and arms, which caused him to fall forward, hitting his head with a window frame and slamming onto the floor.
Skylark then had a seizure and began to choke with his blood. Later, at the hospital in Seattle, the family found out that the young boy had an aneurysm and was very lucky to be alive.
His mom, Sarah Fish, created a GoFundMe.com account to collect money to pay for medical bills. She is urging other teenagers to avoid taking the challenge.
The Duct Tape Challenge is currently trending on social media and Youtube, where some people have created ‘tutorials’ to show many ways to do it effectively. They also add a timing aspect to the “escape challenge,” giving people certain amount of minutes to release themselves from the tape.
