Univision Communications Inc., the leading Spanish-language content and media company in the United States, proudly announces that its impactful #VotaConmigo (“Vote With Me”) campaign has been awarded the Silver Halo Award for Best Activism/Advocacy Initiative at the prestigious 2021 Engage for Good Halo Awards. This significant recognition underscores the campaign's innovative approach and measurable success in empowering Latino Americans to actively participate in the democratic process, particularly during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Launched in 2018, #VotaConmigo was a comprehensive, non-partisan, multiplatform initiative with the core mission of increasing Latino voter turnout. The campaign aimed to provide essential information and resources at every stage of the electoral process, guiding Latino American citizens to register to vote, become educated about voting, obtain absentee ballots, and ultimately cast their ballots.

The campaign utilized a multi-pronged approach to voter mobilization:

• Structured Engagement: It created "Martes de Acción" (Action Tuesdays) and "Semana de Acción" (Week of Action).
• Educational Content: More than 200 Animated Videos & Explainers were produced and publicized through virtual town halls. These resources identified key voter registration deadlines, reassured voters about the legitimacy of vote-by-mail, and offered guidance on how to register, vote by mail, request absentee ballots, and vote safely in person.
• Digital Reach: A series of Spanish-language stickers and GIFs, available on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp, achieved an impressive 18 million views in the first two days. Additionally, QR Codes provided instant access to Univision’s website and voter registration tools on mobile phones, leading to over 70,000 users interacting with the tool to register, request ballots, or update their registrations.
• Influential Partnerships: The #VotaConmigo effort was significantly bolstered by the participation of prominent Latino celebrities such as Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, Wilmer Valderrama, and Laurie Hernandez, alongside well-known social media influencers. Strategic partnerships with leading Hispanic and voting organizations, including Voto Latino, Mi Familia Vota, Poder LatinX, Hispanic Federation, Voter National Registration Day, and the Early Voting Day Coalition, further amplified its reach.
• Mass Media Leverage: Leveraging Univision’s extensive reach into the Latino American community, television segments promoting the campaign reached close to 53 million viewers. Furthermore, over 6,000 posts on Univision’s local and national social media platforms (averaging 54 posts per day) generated more than 43 million impressions.

The campaign's impact was evident in a record number of Latinos casting ballots in the 2020 presidential election. Notably, in key battleground states such as Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, Latino turnout may have been responsible for pushing Joe Biden to victory, with exit polling showing Biden winning the Latino vote by an average of 70 to 30 percent over Donald Trump in these states. Only in Florida did the Latino vote favor Trump.

"The Silver Halo Award is a testament to Univision’s commitment to civic engagement and our role as a trusted source of information for Hispanic America," said Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, Executive Vice President, Government & Corporate Affairs at Univision. "By working alongside community organizations, influencers, and our talented team, we empowered millions of Latinos to make their voices heard at the ballot box".
