Según publicó el periodista especializado en clima, Jason Samenow, del Washington Post, «el clima invernal fue el resultado de una profunda piscina de aire frío a grandes alturas que se estacionó en la región».
Durante el invierno, el desierto suele tener temperaturas de hasta 32º C de día y 20º C de noche. Pero en esta ocasión, las temperaturas descendieron por debajo de los 0º C y provocaron una caída de nieve, según This Is Insider.
