Every year the Macarthur Foundation announces the so-called Genius Grant, a $625,000 award, no-strings-attached, given to selected innovative artists and scholars to encourage them to continue pursuing their work. UNews spoke to Kelly Lytle Hernandez she’s a professor of history, African American studies, and urban planning at UCLA and one of the winners of this year’s grants.
