"Work It" was written and performed as the hit single by Missy Elliott from the fourth studio album titled Under Construction. The album was released on September 9, 2002. The song was inspired by old school hip hop and which included samples in the beginning of the song from Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three's - "Request Line" and also samples from RUN-DMC's - "Peter Piper". Also you can recognize samples from Bob James' "Take Me to the Mardi Gras" and Blondie's - "Heart of Glass."

The song hit the charts on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking in at the number two position. In the music video, you see cameo appearances by fellow hip hop artists Eve, Tweet, Timbaland and Dave Meyers. The Recording Industry Association of America certified "Work It" with gold status because the song sold 35,000 units.

In 2015, Missy's song "Work It" reappeared on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number 35 because of her halftime show performance at the XLIX big football game.
