Hoy was here since about three o'clock and i've been going around talking to business owners and they've expressed their concern about inflation tariffs how difficult has been for them rates and so as you know , it's been affected by all of these issues. How do you plan to the economy and help our small business owners?

Well, so part of that is our job and i've tried very hard to stand up strongly against ice and cbp attacking our communities and they know that in chicago. We won't put up with it here in the state of illinois.

We don't stand for it and indeed. That's the many of them.

Anyway got up and moved along. Now we still have an attack going on, but it's just going on a little quitter, but it's my job and our job to stand up for one another in this state, and that helps us to reestablish order and make sure that our businesses are going to do.

Well, and that people are able to come out and celebrate and enjoy. Running around talking to people in the last few hours many have expressed the concern about health care especially for immigrants as you know there's been policy changes at the charge and in the state of illinois.

The the program for health care for adults immigrants has ended for sixty four that has a lot of restrictions on health care so what are you doing to make sure that our emergency rooms are not overwhelmed and that our immigrants are getting the health care that they need. Well as you may know i helped to put those programs in place for immigrant adults as well as immigrant seniors.

I believe everybody deserves health care in this country. But the federal government came in and said if you continue those programs you are going to put at risk all of the health care that they provide for the state.

So what we did was recognizing that. This is a real challenge for our state and the threat by the federal government.

We preserve the program for seniors who need health care the most they use these services the most and we had to unfortunately ramp down the program for immigrant adults. Spoke to you to months ago.

We both agree that we can still sense the fear in our community because of the rights now we're seeing people being arrested at immigration offices. I know you approve a lot to make sure that everybody has safe access to courts.

But what else can you do to prevent more people being arrested and immigration offices because now there's others who are keeping their court that's because they're they're fearful. Well, we need our local states attorneys to prosecute people who are breaking the law in the state of illinois, but it is also true that there is something in the constitution called the supremacy close which allows their laws at the federal level to override our laws at the state level.

So we've got to level every day. Frankly, we've got a fight them and protect the people who are just trying to seek justice to be honest showing up at the courthouse.

For example and our children showing up at school attempting to get educated. So these are jobs that we have here, but it's very hard.

You know the federal government has put now 70 more billion dollars into it. So have expressed today to meet their concern about the situation with cps.

I know they hundred 30 plus million dollars and they're concern about the upcoming layoffs and program reductions. Have you what would fully fund the evidence based formula.

We're fully funding the evidence based funds . Cps.

. Well, i don't cbs is if that's what they're saying.

We are in fact the requirement of the program is three hundred and fifty million dollars. We in fact did that in our budget and had been doing it every year in fact i put three billion dollars more every year now into education in the state of illinois and that's helping us to become one of the best stats in the country.

You know we're fourth illinois fort among the fifty states in education. Very proud of that fact here's the thing we need more.

We need more teachers. We need to make sure that we're providing everything students need in our schools.

I want to be number one not number four and so i'm going to continue to do that. I know that everybody's asks for more money.

We have to balance our budget and increase education funding and again. I've done that every year for eight years in a row.

On the teen takeovers on giving the police department and of power to declare a curfew whenever they feel. Necessary and i know this is a jurisdiction for the municipality.

Yeah, but you can also you have the authority to say. You know what i will what would it take for you to do it?

Well, i can address an opinion on this, but not, but i can't can't override the local government on this. Um.

What i will say is it's very important that we keep our community safe. And and as you know during the summer.

You often see a rise in crime and particularly violent crime as you also know we are at a sixty five year law in terms of homicides and we actually have the largest decrease in violent crime of any of the large states and number too in the entire country in terms of the drop in violent crime. So i'm very proud of all that we've got to make sure through that we are also giving kids something to do.

Uh, a job that they can earn money at and something that they can do during the summer when they're not occupied going to school because some of the crime that occurs during summer
