Your kids deserve some supper messy fun this summer and I have the craft ideas that will get you started. I promise, I wouldn’t suggest the activity unless I had tried it myself. These activities are messy and fun and every kid needs to give them a try. I promise, you’ll be the coolest mom on the block if you do. Yes, they are going to be messy but isn’t that half the fun? Well, I promise the kids will feel that way, at any rate. And, isn’t that the most important part? Well, that and keeping the mess outside. Relax, every one of these crafts needs to be done outside so your kitchen is safe, for now.
Paint Filled Eggs – I know, right?! How cool is this idea. The time consuming part is blowing out the eggs. Do that in the evening once the kids are in bed. Crack a bottle of Pinot if it makes it easier. Then, the next day you can present those kids with a canvas some eye goggles and a dozen or more eggs to throw to create a masterpiece worthy of your mantle. Trust me, you’ll thank me when it’s all over.
Shaving Cream Art – Maybe dad can take the lead on this one? How cool would that be? Give dad the instructions and sit back with your phone to document the process. You should get some great shots and some great art. Don’t forget to remind dad that ‘he who facilitates craft, cleans up’ because this one can get especially messy.
Bubble Wrap Stomp Painting – This activity is so sensory-friendly I want to do it right now. Get yourself some bubble wrap and cover their little feet with paint. Like the rest of these crafts, outside is best. Let them step in some paper plates of water-based paint and go to town on some paper. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if you get some frame worthy art.
Exploding Paint– This one is not for the faint of heart, but how many craft ideas really are? Only the toughest Mamas are gonna tackle exploding paint. Oh, when you do, would you mind sharing some photos? My experience was pretty great and I’d love to see yours. I’m debating trying this one with my Kindergarten class but I might need a little back-up and a lot of paper towel.
Squirt Gun Painting – This might be the most dangerous of my suggestions and the most fun. Next time I do this I am totally dressing the kids all in white so they can play and create some super cool outfits, too. Goggles, are a must, of course, but otherwise, this is a no-brainer. Let the kids run wild in the backyard as far away from the house as they are allowed. Don’t forget to take pictures.
So, what’s the verdict? Are you brave enough to try some of these messy crafts. Well, the proof is in the pictures so get to work and share your pictures here so I can see the carnage, err…I mean art.
