Six months after he fled Mexico, Javier Duarte, the former governor of Veracruz was arrested in April in Panajachel, a small tourist town on Lake Atitlán in the highlands of southwestern Guatemala.

Duarte had been a fugitve after leaving Mexico in October and disappearing after alleging looting state coffers.

The governor is awaiting extradition back to Mexico and is due in court in July.
