Who are the GAFES and how are they related to ‘El Chapo’?
An elite group comprised of members of the Mexican Army began hunting for ‘El Chapo’ after he escaped from the Puente Grande Penitentiary. Meet them here and find out how they’re related to ‘El Chapo’.

In episode two of the series, the GAFES (Airborne Special Forces), a four member elite group, was commissioned with the task of recapturing ‘ El Chapo’ after his escape from the Puente Grande Penitentiary.

‘El Uno’ is the leader of this Mexican Army elite force. Under his command operate ‘El Bravo’, ‘El Oculto’, and ‘El Jaguar’. They wear military camouflage uniforms and green berets labeled GAFES.

The GAFES managed to discover ‘El Chapo’s hiding place thanks to a tiny microphone that ‘El Oculto’ planted on Guzman Loera’s son’s car disguised as a car washer.

‘El Quino’, Guzman Loera’s son, was talking to a girl and he mentioned the last place he’d been in: Tamazula, Durango. The GAFES heard the conversation and immediately got busy with their move to capture ‘El Chapo’.

Hidden on a humble dwelling on top of a hill, ‘El Chapo’ and ‘Toño’ were discussing the final details of their plan to settle the score with the Avendaño, when all of the sudden, they heard a blizzard of machine gun shots. The door opened and one of his hitmen interrupted them: “‘Sir, we’ve been ambus…!”.

Caught in the middle of a firestorm, ‘El Chapo’ and ‘Toño’ climbed on a quad bike. The GAFES went on a high-speed chase with a quad bike manned by ‘El Oculto’ and ‘El Uno’, and the other by ‘El Bravo’ and ’El Jaguar’. They were heavily armed.

The quad bikes dodge rocks and trees on their way to an area with canyons and ravines. ‘El Chapo’ and ‘Toño’ manage to escape the pursuit and hide inside a deep, narrow cave.

‘El Chapo’ orders to search all houses and places they’ve been to so they can find out whether they’d been bugged, or had their phones tapped. Upon inspecting ‘El Quino’s car, they found a microphone hidden on the pilot’s door pocket.

‘El Chapo’ received a phone call. ‘So glad to hear you, ‘Chapo’! We found out your phone number, same as we’re gonna find you’, said ‘El Uno’ on the other side of the line while trying to trace the signal. ‘El Chapo’ tossed his cellphone out the window.

‘Toño’ got the address of the GAFES leader, so when ‘El Uno’ opened the door to his home, he saw something that left him frozen: his wife and son, surrounded by ‘El Chapo’, ‘Toño’ and three other hitmen.

‘El Chapo’ offered him three times the money he was making in the Army to get him to work for him, double if his team joined in.

‘El Uno’ discussed the proposal with his teammates. ‘El Bravo’ accepted the offer saying: ‘My allegiances are with my family, not the bosses’, and took the envelope with the first payment.

‘El Oculto’ turns down the offer and tells ‘El Uno’ he can’t do it because ‘his old man would die all over again if he went crooked’. But he’s very clear about something: he’s not a snitch and he won’t say anything about the proposal.

‘El Jaguar’ also accepted the proposal, saying: ‘You guys are my people. I’ll only risk my neck for you and with you. I don’t give who the boss is’.

Now under the service of ‘El Chapo’, the GAFES’s first mission was to locate Benjamín Avendaño, hidden on one of his safe houses after the murder of his brother Ramón.

The GAFES found the hideout of the Tijuana Cartel leader without a problem. The movements of ‘El Charalito’, one of the most trusted men of the Avendaño Brothers, are the key to locate the apartment in the city of Puebla.

From the window of an apartment in front of the safe house, ‘El Uno’ caught a glimpse of Benjamín Avendaño looking out to the street. He immediately gave ‘El Chapo’ the information.

‘El Chapo’ handed out the information of Benjamin’s hiding place to ‘Don Sol’ in exchange for the government to stop chasing him and stop his extradition process.
