With offices in New York, Washington D.C., Connecticut, Florida, Puerto Rico and a nonprofit footprint throughout the East Coast, Hispanic Federation uplifts millions of Hispanic children, youth and families locally and nationally through three essential service pillars: membership services and grant making; advocacy; and community programs.
The Hispanic Federation raises awareness of pervasive health disparities that affect Latinos
The organization provides direct health-related assistance to at-risk and underserved Latinos and educates them throughout the country about critical health issues.

The Federation's mission is to empower and advance the Hispanic community while focusing on Health, Civic Engagement, Immigration, the Environment, Education, Economic Empowerment, and Disaster Relief. HF has taken a national leadership role in raising awareness of Latino health disparities and promoting strategies to improve Latino health as well as increasing Latinos’ access to affordable and quality healthcare by:
- Providing direct health-related assistance to at-risk and underserved Latinos
- Educating Latinos throughout the country about critical health issues
- Advocating for increased resources for the Latino community and the Latino non-profit sector
- Providing HF health member agencies with capacity-building grants and technical assistance
Our community health programs include:
Increasing access to healthcare by helping New York families and small businesses enroll in health coverage through NY State of Health: The Official Health Plan Marketplace. Navigators provide eligible people with assistance in completing the enrollment application. They also help small employers offer insurance to their employees.
Through our Latino Health Awareness Initiative we focus on education to impact diabetes, heart disease, lupus, asthma, and other related health outcomes in the Latino community. Through this initiative, the Hispanic Federation provides innovative educational workshops and activities, public education campaigns, coalition building, and education, throughout the country. Special projects include homegrown behavior change interventions, pilot projects, and research.
Supporting Healthy Lifestyles though our Get Up! Get Moving! Health Expo, which takes place each year in New York City, Central Florida, and Puerto Rico. Get Up! Get Moving! (GUGM) provides free screenings, physical fitness regimens, and health information and referrals, serving over 15,000 individuals since its inception. GUGM boasts activities that promote a healthy lifestyle for all ages, offering alternatives to mainstream exercise.
Our HIV/AIDS Program strives to arrest the impact of this disease on the Latino community. In 1996, we created Latinos Unidos Contra el SIDA (LUCES), an HIV/AIDS education and advocacy coalition that has been at the forefront of securing needed resources and policies to combat the disease. LUCES has also given birth to groundbreaking prevention initiatives such as National Latino AIDS Awareness Day and Latino HIV Testing Month. Today, LUCES continues its work to develop public policy, serve as an advocate for a Latino HIV/AIDS agenda, and provide culturally-competent HIV/AIDS education and care to Latinos.
Through Zumbando en el Barrio we provide culturally-competent activities that provide a way for people of all ages to exercise and receive information on critical health issues affecting their communities. Zumbando en el Barrio includes Zumbathons, one-day exercise sessions and chats that are featured from a main stage or booth exhibit ensuring an interactive experience for participants. In addition, Hispanic Federation provides multi-day programs that include workout sessions and healthy living information.
