In photos: Violence soars in Mexico in 2017

In the first three months of the year, a total of 5,775 murders were recorded, more than in any other year in the same period in the last two decades, according to figures from the National Public Security System. In March, Mexico surpassed 2,000 homicides in a month for the first time since mid-2011.
