The late R&B singer Whitney Houston released her third single "So Emotional" from her second album Whitney on October 12, 1987. The song hit the 1987 - 1988 Billboard Hot 100 charts at number one. "So Emotional" hit the Billboard Hot 100 End of the year chart at number six. In 1988, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified "So Emotional" Gold status from selling over 500,000 units.
