With Amado’s death, his relationship with ‘El Chapo’ has ended
Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and Amado were already rivals, but little by little they became declared enemies. This is how Amado died, together with their relationship.
The Mexican government appointed Amado, Joaquín Guzmán’s declared enemy, as the drug-trafficking leader in charge of controlling cartels. At the beginning of season two, he passed away at the middle of full cosmetic surgery.

Amado decided to undergo surgery after the Avendaño brothers ambushed him and his wife in a seafood restaurant in Mexico City. He escaped the attack through the backdoor.

Amado told his thoughts to his brother, ‘El Chente’. He wanted to be able to go out and enjoy his fortune without fearing being recognized by shooting enemies. He asked ‘El Chente’ to watch the Avendaños closely.

Amado went in the operation room of a Mexico City hospital and was never seen again. The news of his demise spread like wildfire through the media.

‘El Chapo’ was ecstatic when he found out about Amado’s death in his cell in Puente Grande, Jalisco. Rivalry between them grew after certain differences between them; an act of treason changed El Chapo’s destiny.

In season 1, ‘El Chapo’ and Amado started having differences when Joaquín Guzmán asked Miguel Ángel for a chance to show him a new way to handle Amado’s business: cocaine crossings.

Miguel Ángel’s refusal displeased ‘El Chapo’, who decided to contact Pablo Escobar directly to offer his services. Amado thought El Chapo would fail and sign his death sentence, but he was wrong. From then on, ‘El Chapo’ became a headache to him.

Amado was caught together with ‘El Jefe de Jefes’, but the DEA sent him out to handle the violence wave caused by other drug lords.

By then, things between Joaquín Guzmán and the Avendaños were already tense; the Tijuana Cartel leaders had already shown ‘El Chapo’ their anger. Their relationship deteriorated to its worst when Ramón killed ‘El Rayo’, El Chapo’s best friend.

Amado arranged a meeting with ‘El Chapo’, his partner ‘El Güero’, and the Avendaño brothers so that they could leave their differences in the past. ‘El Güero’ quickly accepted a truce, but ‘El Chapo’ gave in reluctantly.

Peace wouldn’t last long. The Avendaños had a plan that would break an unspoken rule of drug traffickers: leaving families alone. The brothers sent a hitman to seduce El Güero’s wife.

'Guadalupe' let herself go and died in her lover’s arms. He beheaded her and threw her children off a bridge. ‘El Güero’ went mad with pain and hatred when he received his wife’s head in a cooler and a videotape showing his children’s murder.

This crime unleashed El Chapo’s fury against the Avendaño brothers. Guzmán asked Amado to get involved now that the Tijuana Cartel leaders had broken the rules. At his refusal to help, ‘El Chapo’ made arrangements to ambush the Avendaños at a nightclub.

After this violent event showed them that ‘El Chapo’ wouldn’t follow their rules, Amado sided with the Avendaño brothers and the Mexican government in chasing himand Cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo.

Amado set ‘El Chapo’ up so that the Avendaño brothers could murder himat the Guadalajara airport and take advantage of the situation to take out Posadas Ocampo. ‘El Chapo’ managed to escape, but the cardinal and several civilians died during the ambush.

Amado wanted to hunt ‘El Chapo’ down, so he called him after the cardinal’s assassination. However, he made a mistake when he asked Joaquín if he was still at his hotel. That’s how ‘El Chapo’ noticed that Amado was part of the trap.

‘El Chapo’ became the most wanted drug trafficker and Amado was on his tail. He was the one who warned General Blanco of an important cocaine shipment to be delivered in El Salvador. He was captured during this operation
