The presidents of Mexico and their agreements with drug-lords in ‘El Chapo’
In the fictitious story that takes place in ‘El Chapo’, we’ve met a few of the presidents who ruled in Mexico while Joaquín Guzmán built his empire and fought other cartels.
In 1988, the new Mexican president changed all the agreements his predecessor had made with the drug lords.

The new president wanted to own the game completely, so he ordered the arrest of Miguel Ángel, ‘El Jefe de Jefes’, who was in charge of several ‘patrones’ controlling the main drug distribution routes.

Even though Amado, the Juárez cartel leader, was also arrested, he was freed soon enough so that he could control the war between ‘El Chapo’ and the Avendaño brothers, and thus become the new government emissary.
