The Drug War and ‘El Chapo’s ambition bathed Mexico in blood
In cahoots with ‘El Chapo’, Felipe Alarcón declared the war against the drug lords. The death toll was disastrous. Violence increased exponentially and covered Mexico’s ground with innocent blood.
President Felipe Alarcón declared the war against drug lords without imagining that favoring Joaquín Guzmán and his criminal organization would bring upon an endless wave of violence that would paint Mexico red.

In order to fight the Drug War, Alarcón got the US government to provide him the means. He equipped the army and the federal police with high caliber sophisticated weaponry.

‘El Chapo’ and ‘Don Sol’ got together to define the new rules of the games. Joaquín Guzmán needed to take Nuevo Laredo so he could fully control the business. He would have to fight against the bloodthirsty ‘Cano’ and ‘Los EMES’.

‘El Chapo’ guaranteed ‘Don Sol’ they would get immediate results from a joint offense against ‘Los EMES’, turning the war in their favor. ‘El Chapo’ was convinced that nothing would stop the rise of ‘La Federación’ with the government on his side.

But he not only wanted to own Nuevo Laredo, he also had unfinished business with ‘El Chente’ and he was ready to settle them. He told the members of ‘La Federación’ that all dealings with ‘El Chente’ were over. He was now to be their enemy.

‘El Chapo’ told ‘Don Sol’ his plans. “All you want is money and to run your business tight. The border operates under our control, which means more money for everyone”, he said to convince him.

While the high rank military and police officers were preparing their attack plan against the Juárez and Nuevo Laredo cartels, one of ‘El Cano’s hit men was taking note of their strategies to warn him.

‘El Cano’ got in touch with ‘El Chente’ to warn him about ‘El Chapo’s treason and got offered an alliance with ‘Los EMES’ to face the onslaught of the government and ‘La Federación’.

Two months after the announcement of the Drug War, Felipe Alarcón and ‘Don Sol’ were sorely disappointed by the results. ‘El Chapo’ even more so. The attacks and victims kept on coming in Juárez and Nuevo Laredo.

While ‘El Chapo’ told ‘Don Sol’ the war had just begun and asked him to be patient, Alarcón was confronting ‘Don Sol’ about the lack of results.

‘Don Sol’ attributed the failure of the war to the corruption within the government and the disloyalty of the military and police officials bought by ‘El Cano’ and ‘El Chente’.

With the help of ‘Tony Tormenta’, Raciel’s brother and leader of the Gulf Cartel, ‘El Chapo’ got a list of politicians, members of the military and police officers at ‘El Cano’s service and got ready to hunt them one by one.

Top of the list was Chihuahua’s governor, Jorge López Arias, loyal to ‘El Chente’. ‘El Chapo’ and his men organized and ambush to send him a message. After shooting him on the leg, Joaquín Guzmán made it very clear that he would now be working for him.

Meanwhile, the Beltrán Leyda brothers, ‘El Bravo’ and ‘El Uno’ took care of silencing the mayor and several policemen on ‘El Cano’ and ‘El Chente’s payrolls.

‘El Cano’ wouldn’t think twice before teaching ‘El Chapo’ a lesson for killing his protectors. Along with his men, the inhabitants of a town in Durango were ruthlessly massacred. Men, women and children spilled their blood on the streets of their town.

‘Los EMES’ hung a billboard with a clear warning: “Chapo, you’re never going to defeat us, not even with all your military and police officers”.

‘El Chapo’ wasted no time before ‘El Cano’s threat and immediately ordered an attack. Its target, a bar in Nuevo Laredo. Dozens of innocent civilians were murdered in cold blood.
