On the day of the escape, while ‘El Chapo’ was getting ready to leave with his federal officer uniform on, ‘El Chito’ arrived at the parking lot, pushing a laundry cart that he parked beside his own car.

‘El Chito’ was the guest of honor at the celebration party after the escape. ‘You’re one of us now, Chito. You put your ass on the line to help me’, is what Joaquín Guzmán told him to bid him welcome before all the members of the organization. Little did ‘Chito’ know what was about to happen.

Facing a wave of speculation about his escape, ‘El Chapo’ asks ‘El Chito’ for one last favor: ‘You’ll turn yourself in and tell the police you were the only one that helped me escape. Are we clear?’ ‘El Chito’ accepted with resignation.
