Amado’s death: unexpected and full of doubt
In season two of ‘El Chapo’, Amado dies after undergoing cosmetic surgery to modify his appearance. Here’s the analysis of the circumstances surrounding his unexpected demise.

Before undergoing the surgical operation meant to change his appearance, Amado ‘El Señor de los Cielos’ was ambushed by the Avendaño brothers in a seafood restaurante in Mexico City. The Tijuana Cartel leaders were determined to finish him off.

Ramón Avendaño stormed in, firing gun in hand. Amado and his wife escaped the attack through the back door, but the ambush clearly meant that war was just starting.

After the incident, ‘Don Sol’ contronted Amado. He told him he was losing control; not everybody recognized his authority and hehad left the trafficking clans grow too much. ‘Don Sol’ showed doubt in his face, could the government keep trusting this man with leading the drug-trafficking organizations?

When Amado told his brother ‘El Chente’ about his plans of getting surgery,he warned him of the dangers. However, Amado said he was very healthy, and the doctor confirmed everything was ready for the procedure.

‘El Chente’ insisted: why did he need to change his face? Amado answered that he wanted to be able to go outside and enjoy the fortune he had built without fear of being recognized and shot by his enemies.

Everything was ready for Amado to enter the operation room. His wife walked beside him on the hallway. Right before the door, Amado and his wife shook hands goodbye.

We never saw Amado leave that operation room again. The news of his demise spread like wildfire. The media said little to nothing about how he died.

“On July 3rd, Mr. Antonio Flores Montes entered the Santa Mónica Hospital in Mexico City inorder to undergo cosmetic surgery and liposuction. The procedure was successful, the patient was transfered to room 407, where he officially passed away at 4am.

“According to the death certificate, the cause of death was a myocardial infarction. The following day, the body of Flores Montes was transfered to Sinaloa by airplane; by then, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) had received information about the defunct’s real identity. He was Amado Carrillo, leader of the Juárez Cartel, also known as ‘El Señor de los Cielos’”. These words accompanied the images of his embalmed body.

In his cell in the Puente Grande penitentiary in Jalisco, ‘El Chapo’ found out about Amado’s death and the news got him euphoric. Joaquín Guzmán and Amado were great rivals after several differences, and an act of treason that changed the fate of ‘El Chapo’.
