Both lives changed
Dawn’s hearing loss was first noticeable when her family would speak to her and she would walk away. When the 30 year old visited a doctor, she had not only lost her sense of hearing, but speech recognition as well. In large crowds and even with friends and family, communication was very difficult. Reading lips and trying to figure out what the other person was saying, used to be a day-to-day hassle.
As technology advanced, Dawn was a perfect candidate for a cochlear implant; an electronic device which allows for people who are severally deaf to hear. Aside from learning about the good news, Dawn was afraid to hear her 8 year old son’s voice for the first time.
