Manufacturers in the U.S., will have 3 years to remove all trans fats from its products. According to a release from the U.S., Food and Drug Administration “ ...the primary dietary source of artificial trans fat in processed foods, are not generally recognized as safe…”
The agency is determined to maintain its safety commitment with U.S., consumers. “Since 2006, manufacturers have been required to include trans fat content information on the Nutrition Facts label of foods.” With this in mind, many people who never read the back of the box and/ or often visited fast food restaurants, digested products that later increased their chances of developing a heart disease.
In the United States, 1 out of 4 women die of a heart disease. A post by the National Library of Medicine suggests that one of the most common heart diseases found in more women than men is Coronary microvascular disease (MVD) – which is when the heart’s tiny arteries become affected.
“Studies show that diet and nutrition play a key role in preventing chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and today’s action goes hand in hand with other FDA initiatives to improve the health of Americans, including updating the nutrition facts label,” mentioned Susan Mayne, Ph.D., who is the director of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
