This is why you should teach your child to swim!

Kids are known for having more than enough energy in their tiny bodies. Every summer, parents are encouraged to keep an extra set of eyes on their children, especially if they are around a pool or by the sea.  According to an article posted by CDC ― nearly 14,000 Americans below the age of 19 drowned from 1999-2010 alone. Also, a shocking 40% of those children were among the ages 1 – 4.

Prevention starts at an early age

During the summer, an excellent way to beat the sun is by swimming. Pools are often visited by children who rely on lifeguards and in most cases on floaties. As a mom, there is so much you could do to prevent your baby from drowning

Red cross instructor and trainer mentioned in an article to the Washington post, “Kids won’t really become competent swimmers until age 6 or 7… a child slowly progresses from immobile to walking over months…starting at 4 or 5 can be helpful…”

However, in the video we just saw the little boy doesn’t look older than 3. From experience, I’ve had friends who have placed their children in swimming lessons as early as 2 years old. In all cases, it should be better to be safe than sorry.

Swimming lessons

Every summer there are local parks ―with pools― that offer parents swimming lessons for their little ones. Not only will the experience be entertaining for your baby, but it could possibly save his or her life at any dangerous moment.

Don’t just rely on "floaties", give your child the opportunity to learn an ability that he or she could use for the rest of his or her life.
