Great news for rapper Kendrick Lamar, the Pulitzer Prize committee just announced the award for his album "DAMN."

Kendrick Lamar is one of the thirteen Pulitzer Prize winners named for 2018. The prize is annually presented to those influenced in American journalism, literature, and music industry. This is the first prize for a non-classical or jazz artist to win.

The Pulitzer Prize highlights Lamar writing about songs about blackness, street life, police brutality, perseverance, survival and growth.

K-dot's music helped him become the "voice of the generation" and helped him climb the music ladder as a leader in crossover hip-hop to an audience outside of rap music.

The 30-year-old has won 11 Grammy Awards.

Congratulations Kendrick Lamar!
