Grupo Mazz's Joe Lopez will soon be released from prison. The decision came on January 26, 2018 after the Texas Pardons and Parole Board granted the Lopez's parole.
The 67-year-old Tejano star has served a total of 11 years behind bars.
Lopez's former attorney Bill Habern tells the press: "It's about time they released him."
In 2006, Lopez was sentenced to 32 years in prison by a Cameron County jury for allegedly raping his 13-year-old niece Krystal Lopez.
Lopez was also sentenced for 20 years for one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child as well as an additional eight years for a second count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child. Since Lopez was serving multiple sentences, he was ordered to serve 20 years in prison.
Lopez has served his sentence in the Hightower Unit in Dayton. He is currently awaiting his judicial hearing that is expected to take place in 30 to 45 days.
Upon his release, Lopez will undergo "supervised parole" until October 2026. He could be released by mid-February, but has no official date has been set yet.
