Selena Gomez made a surprise announcement earlier today: She is recovering from a kidney transplant.
The surgery comes as a result of Gomez's ongoing fight with Lupus, a chronic disease that attacks the tissues and organs in the immune system. The 25-year-old, who has been vocal about the need for education and research of the disease, posted a series of photos to her Instagram page make the announcement. Aside from expressing her gratitute to her family and doctors, Gomez stressed her appreciation for her donor, fellow actress and friend Francia Raisa.
Raisa, who appeared in the ABC Family hit show ' The Secret Life of The American Teenager,' also shared the identical photo with her own message in support of her friend.
Neither Gomez nor Raisa have announced the physical date that the surgery took place.
