Oprah Winfrey just made a generous donation towards the Puerto Rican relief efforts in the amount of $2 million. After the devastation of Hurricane Maria, the island of Puerto Rico is still suffering years later and will be for awhile.
The legendary media mogul had donated $1 million to the Hispanic Federation and another million to the Flamboyan Arts Fund.
“I was so moved by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s commitment to bring ‘Hamilton’ to Puerto Rico and support the community that served him growing up that I wanted to join in the revitalization efforts of an island so rich in culture, beauty, and heritage,” Oprah said in a statement. “The needs of Puerto Rico and our fellow American citizens following the tragic hurricanes are still very real, and the work that has already been done by the Hispanic Federation, Flamboyan Arts Fund and other organizations on and off the island is long from over.”
In the beginning of the year, Oprah and her best friend Gayle King flew to Puerto Rico to enjoy the play Hamilton.
Many celebrities such as Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and many others have opened up their wallets to give back to the recovering island.
