Carlos Santana backtracks on Beyonce slam

The legendary artist backtracked on recent statements he made when describing why he believed Adele won the Grammy for Album Of The Year for her 25 over Beyonce's Lemonade.

Santana explained to the Australian Associated Press, "I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing. With all respect to our sister Beyonce, Beyonce is very beautiful to look at and it's more like modeling kind of music -- music to model a dress -- she's not a singer, singer, with all respect to her. Adele can sing, sing. She doesn't bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that's it, and this is why she wins."

After a public online backlash, Santana took to his Facebook page in an effort to minimize the damage, posting: "I would like to clarify a comment that was reported when I was doing an interview for some upcoming shows in Australia & New Zealand. My intent was to congratulate Adele on her amazing night at the Grammies (sic). My comment about Beyonce was regretfully taken out of context. I have the utmost respect for her as an artist and a person. She deserves all the accolades that come her way. I wish Beyonce and her family all the best. Carlos"

The Mexican-born Santana tells us that he's made a concerted effort of not being associated with any one kind of genre throughout his years in the business: "It helps me not to allow anyone to define me -- 'There's, like, another Mexican blues player or another Los Lobos guy.' And as much as I like Los Lobos, sometimes people put them into like, y'know -- 'They're those nice Mexican guys who play this music.' And I'm like 'whoa, whoa.' I'd rather be a musician that could go to Japan or Africa or Jerusalem or the Apache Reservation and be able to complement whatever they put in front of me."
