The good news is that you will no longer have to drive an hour and a half through Austin traffic to get to IKEA in Round Rock. IKEA is expanding to the Alamo City, technically Live Oak... but still it's the San Antonio area!
The bad news is the waiting game. The new IKEA store (pending approvals) will break ground on the North East side of town in the Spring of 2018. Once the structure is completed, the store won't actually open their doors until Summer of 2019. We're talking about a massive building here!
The store will be approximately 289,000 square feet in space and about 1,000 cars will be able to park on the 31 acre lot off the southwestern corner of I-35 and Loop 1604.
The store will sell nearly 10,000 items and of course you can dine in their famous Swedish restaurant on meatballs with lingonberries, salmon plates and more. The store will create over 250 jobs once the store opens.
