R&B artist Ne-Yo was born Shaffer Chimere Smith on October 18, 1979 in Camden, Arkansas. Ne-Yo is a songwriter, record producer, dancer and actor. Ne-Yo started out by writing the song "Let Me Love You" by Mario in 2004.

In 2006, Ne-Yo released his first debut album In My Own Words which was number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums on the Billboard chart. The album quickly went platinum selling over 1.4 million copies.

Ne-Yo's music is primarily R&B but he also incorporates pop and hip-hop on occasions. Ne-Yo's music is influenced by artists such as: Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Babyface, and Usher.
