It’s that time of year again when families are getting into the festive spirit and trying to come up with ideas for gifts. Of course, the best gifts of all are from the heart and a homemade gift can be one of the most precious things to give another family member. If kids are joining in the gift giving this year, there are a variety of homemade gift ideas that they can choose from. Let the kids spread the Christmas cheer by giving them some excellent homemade gift ideas.
Kids can be the chef for a day and bake homemade cookies. They can make sugar cookies and use other items such as marshmallows and colorful candy to dress them up, as well as colored frosting for decoration. When they are finished baking, kids can wrap them up, place them in a Christmas tin, and offer them to family on Christmas Day.
Your kids can put all of their fondest family memories in a scrapbook. The book can be a plain photo album and they can decorate the front of it with ‘all things Christmas.’ They can label the pictures and create funny pictures or text to put around the photos. Let them browse through the family albums, whether online or in a book, and let them choose the ones they want to put into the scrapbook. This is a very special present to give to parents as it will show just how much their kids appreciate the memories you have shared together so far.
Kids can make t-shirts for all family members to wear on Christmas morning. All they need are some plain white t-shirts to suit all family members’ sizes, Christmas theme paints, and some glitter to make them sparkle. They can create Christmas trees, Santa’s, candy canes and reindeer pictures, and give them out on Christmas morning for everyone to wear.
Kids can make all sorts of designs when it comes to creating Christmas coffee jackets. They can make the jacket from the leg of old socks. They will need old socks, fabric glue, buttons and felt for decorating each jacket. What a fabulous present for Mommy or Daddy’s daily coffee from Starbucks!
Kids can create clay photo frames for the entire family! They will need colored air-hardening clay, an old pen, a dull knife, double-sided sticky tape and some beads or gems for decoration. Roll out the clay and with the knife, cut out the shape of the photo you will be placing in the frame. Then push in the gems or beads to make it look colorful and festive, and with the old pen, write Merry Christmas at the bottom. Use double-sided sticky tape to put the photo into the frame and let it dry for a few days. This is a great idea for Grandparents or parents!
