Make the most of the last month of summer by planning fun and adventurous family activities. Although summer is winding down that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the last few days of freedom before school starts. Family activities are a great way to bond and create new memories together. You don’t need to take an expensive vacation or spend hours planning the perfect activity to have your kids smiling and enjoying time with each other. Here are five family activities to make the most of the last month of summer.
Visit an Orchard. Many local farms feature activities such as pick your own fruits, mazes, or tractor rides. Fruits such as peaches, raspberries, and blueberries are in season in August while many apples are ready to pick by the beginning of September. Your whole family will love exploring the orchard or farm and eating fresh delicious food.
Enjoy a Water park. Create a fun water park in your own backyard with a sprinkler, water table, or slip and slide. You can also search for water parks nearby to enjoy some sun before the summer’s end. The weather in August can still be very warm so make sure you plan activities to stay cool.
Day Trip to the Beach. Plan a day trip to the beach to enjoy the sand, waves, and water one last time. If you don’t live near a beach search for a nearby lake. Your family will love building sandcastles, searching for seashells, or canoeing on the lake.
Go on a Bike Ride. The whole family will get exercise and smile while riding bikes together. Find a local trail or bike path and go for a ride. If you bring a light lunch or snacks you can take a break near a shady tree or green patch of grass. It’s a great way to enjoy the sun in the last days of summer.
Compete in Mini Golf. Children of all ages love playing a round of miniature golf. Create a family fun competition or just enjoy spending time with each other. In the summer some mini golf courses are open late so you can play after dinner. After you play treat your family with ice cream.
When planning family activities remember to have fun. Don’t stress about the details and try to enjoy each other’s company. You will be happy you took advantage of the last days of summer and made new memories together as a family.
