Christmas time is a time for being grateful for all of the things in life that we are fortunate to have. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we tend to forget how lucky we are to have shelter, food on the table and people that genuinely care for us. There are so many people in the world that do not have the same luxuries as the rest of us, and we need to remember to be thankful, not only at Christmas time, but every single day.
Family is Everything
Families are busier than ever these days and we tend to forget just how lucky we are to have each other. Parents and kids need to take time to remember how many people in this world do not have a loving and caring family to rely on or turn to. It’s important to take time for each other and to listen to each other’s needs. Just be there for one another.
A Place to Rest and Sleep
There are so many people in the world that do not have a roof to put over their heads. It is very important to remember how privileged we are to have shelter from the outside world and cold weather when we need it.
A Shoulder to Lean On
Having friendships and people to trust in our lives is a precious gift. When we have someone to rely on and share our deepest secrets with, we are lucky. Friendships are some of the most important relationships we have in life and we need to appreciate and nurture them.
Education is Valuable
Being thankful for education is important. Sometimes we can take school for granted as it seems like everyone else does it and it’s a normal passage in life. Children in various other countries will never know what the inside of a classroom looks like and many don’t know how to read. We need to teach our children to appreciate their teachers and what they learn from them at school.
Clothes to Wear
Unfortunately, many people cannot afford warm clothes during harsh winters and appropriate clothes for various activities and school. There are many people that have to wear the same clothing, day in and day out. Christmas time is the perfect time to be generous and to donate warm jackets, blankets and other clothing to the homeless shelters or participate in a clothing donation event.
A Job to Go To
Today, finding employment isn’t an easy task. If you have a job to go to every day or a business of your own, be appreciate of it and the fact you can contribute to the care of your family.
Thankful for Good Health
Our health is one of the most important things we have in our lives. We need to be grateful for good health. Many children and adults across the world have poor health and may never find help for it. Teach your kids to be appreciative of how healthy they are and to value it.
Laughter is the Best Medicine
Be grateful for laughter. It is one of those things that can cheer us up when we have a bad day or feel down, and it can lighten up the days of those we love. Have fun and laugh with your kids whenever possible.
Appreciate Quiet Moments
Being thankful for those gentle moments where you can’t even hear a pin drop is very important. With all of the tragic events happening in the world nowadays, take time to enjoy quiet moments. Enjoy quiet time with your kids and reflect on how fortunate you are to have each other.
Be Grateful for Love
If you have found the love of your life or if you are surrounded by the love of your family and friends every day, you are extremely lucky. Love is the biggest gift at Christmas time and always.
