All lactating mommies are superheroes. Let’s just start with that. It takes a lot of work, time and love to make milk for a babe. Have you heard of the famous Housepoet and her cookies for ladies interested in increasing breast milk production? For mommies struggling with milk supply, I don’t know what could be better. Cookies that help make more milk! What a beautiful concept!
The combination of oats, flaxseed and brewers yeast create a major milk booster. They’re all galactogogues which increase milk production. Brewers yeast must be used in this recipe, also called nutritional yeast, not the conventional yeast used in bread. Brewers yeast can be found at most health food stores and some traditional grocery stores in the baking section. It’s optimal to eat four of these yummy cookies daily when you are increasing breast milk supply.
If you’re not into baking or you don’t have a lot of time (and we all know you don’t with that hungry infant!), there’s also the option to buy very similar cookies from Milk Makers but be prepared to for some sticker shock! You may find flaxseeed oatmeal cookies at the grocery store but they probably don’t have the yeast so won’t work as well.
The original recipe – now trademarked! – can be found at Housepoet’s current website, noelove. Turns out, she’s girl named Noel who has a lot of concern for other mamas. She’s helped many lactating ladies increase milk supply and is really into sushi and online gaming.
Also, please be mindful to know your baby and your body. If the two of you have a good milk give and take going, there’s no need to eat four of these cookies every day. Try just one. Often, pumping less and nursing more often will stimulate enough milk for your little one.
