Putting aside time for play with your kids isn’t always as simple as one, two, and three. If you have a schedule like I do, then it definitely isn’t one of your easier tasks. Kids love spending play time with their parents as long as their parents are fully in tune with them and participating. There isn’t any point in putting aside time for play and then be stuck to your phone texting or on a laptop half the time. It is possible to put aside time to play with your kids even if you have a busy schedule, you just need to know how and when to do so.
One Hour After Dinner
When the entire family gets home from work and school it’s usually is a bit hectic with everyone trying to settle in for the night, complete homework or chores, and get dinner ready. The best time of the night is after all tummies are full and all homework and chores have been completed.
Then you can all relax and share stories of the day over dinner. After the dishes have been done get everyone to meet in the living room for a family game such as Monopoly or Pictionary. Choose a game rather than sitting in front of the television. This offers more time for communication and genuine family bonding.
Go on a Camping Trip
While this isn’t always easy for parents to plan, getting everybody away from the home and their technical devices is a fantastic way to spend quality time together. Try to tie up all loose ends from work by the Friday afternoon and get ready to have some fun in the wilderness!
Plan Spontaneous Activities
Normally, the words plan and spontaneous shouldn’t be in the same sentence, but the spontaneous part is for your child. If things have been very structured at home, surprise your kids with some spontaneous family bonding time! This could mean grabbing a few kites and going to the park or baking a delicious cheesecake together for no reason at all.
Play Dates Are the Perfect Solution
Mom’s and Dad’s need to have fun too. So why not spend time with your kids with another friend and their kids. Play dates are a fantastic way to spend time with your child while also practising social skills and building strong friendships. You can play board games, sing karaoke, go swimming or go on a picnic in the sunshine.
Play with Them Anytime of the Day
Play with your kids whenever you want to. If you have a free moment, (even if it is just ten minutes), go and play with your child. Don’t question it, leave the chores and to-do’s behind and have some fun! Kids will always be ready to play and have fun with their parents, and if they have any way to get out of a chore they will take it, believe me.
How do you find time for play in your busy schedule? I’m always looking for more tips so please share your thoughts.
