Diabetes is generated due to high levels of blood glucose. This disease is divided into two types; type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is often diagnosed in children or young adults; in this type of diabetes the pancreas cannot produce insulin. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes is the most common. In this case, the person's body creates insulin but it may be that the pancreas does not produce enough or the body cannot use it properly.
If you have diabetes, then you must learn to live with it every day. Your diet should include products with fewer calories, saturated fat, trans fat, sugar and salt; and keep up with healthy habits as the ones provided in the recommendations section. Above all, keep in touch with your doctor to monitor your condition and adjust your treatment as needed.
Saturated fat: This type of fat raises the level of LDL cholesterol (bad), which can put you at risk for a heart attack. Saturated fat is usually found in dairy products such as butter, cheese, whole milk, cream and ice cream. However, fatty meats also contain this type of fat.
Trans fat: This type of fat is created when liquid oils are made into solid fats.
Multigrain foods: These foods are those that are composed of different whole grains, such as barley, oats, rice and wheat flour, quinoa and others.
Glucose: Glucose is the sugar that is in your blood.
Insulin: Insulin is a hormone produced by our pancreas that is in charge of regulating the process in which the foods we eat are converted into energy.
-Avoid foods high in calories, saturated and trans fat, sugar and salt.
-Choose foods such as multigrain cereasl, fruits and vegetables.
-Drink water instead of juice and soda.
-Prepare an emergency bag with candy or glucose tablets every time you leave home. This will help if you suffer low blood sugar.
-Exercise by doing 30 minutes of physical activity five days a week. NOTE: While you exercise, you may experience low blood sugar. Talk to your doctor for advice on which exercises you can perform.
-Avoid feeling stressed.
-Eat moderate portions 5 times throughout the day. That way, you will avoid sugar spikes and crashes.
-Keep a daily record of your diet. Create a calendar in which you include the results of your glucose tests, what you ate, how you felt, and if you did any physical activity.
