Cinco de Mayo is always a time to celebrate in San Antonio, but this year’s celebration will take on even greater significance.
SAN ANTONIO " Cinco de Mayo is always a time to celebrate in San Antonio, but this year’s celebration will take on even greater significance as the San Antonio Scorpions create a festive atmosphere around the team’s North American Soccer League (NASL) game against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
San Antonio’s new pro soccer team will take on the Rowdies at 7:30 p.m. at Heroes Stadium, located at Thousand Oaks Drive and Wurzbach Parkway near the Loop 410-IH 35 interchange in Northeast San Antonio.
“Along with our Spanish-language TV partner, KWEX Univision 41 San Antonio, we intend to stage the biggest Cinco de Mayo party in San Antonio,” said Michael Hitchcock, Scorpions president. “Already San Antonio has shown it’s more than ready for professional soccer, so our Cinco de Mayo game will add even more excitement to a special holiday.
Hitchcock and KWEX Univision 41 San Antonio will host the President’s Tailgate Party for Scorpions fans at 4:30 p.m. at the STAR (South Texas Area Regional) Soccer Complex parking lot within walking distance of Heroes Stadium.
