Te Amaré en Silencio marks crucial debut
By María Elena Venant, Univision Online
At a time when the soap opera is at a turning point, and it seems to be stranded in the same stale recipe, Univision breaks into the production market, presenting Te Amare En Silencio (I´ll Love You in Silence) its first homemade telenovela. A silent romance, the return of Eduardo Yañez and the beauty of Ana Carolina Da Fonseca are its main assets. From our own backyard Te Amaré en Silencio deals with subjects directly touching the targeted public, such as illegal immigration. However it will not preclude romance, the genres fundamental factor. The productions aim is to furnish the viewers with topics close to their own experience, close to their reality or their fantasies. In the words of Andrei Zinca, the soaps director: "To give the viewers the product they deserve and moreover, made in their own backyard".
In order to achieve this goal, Te Amare was shot in Los Angeles, showing the city in all it´s beauty, with locations on Malibu, Marina del Rey and other areas.Forbidden Cities
Nevertheless, shooting in L.A. was not an easy task. Andrei Zinca has described the trials of moving throughout a metropolis, the expensive permit charges for location and union problems. All of which made this a high-cost production.
As Zinca said: "For the first time, a large production in Spanish, has taken place in Los Angeles. This is significant since until now, L.A. was taboo, the land of impossible, and yet it is been proven to be possible".
Beyond the myth breaking, Te Amaré en Silencio has opened the door for other Latino productions in California. As it was, in more than one aspect, a "pioneer" soap, a fresh plot, and a competent and varied cast headed by a very special actor were needed.
